White Sox go With Burger and are Waiting for Beer on the Side.

It’s official the White Sox have selected 3B Jake Burger from Missouri State University in the 2017 MLB draft.

Standing 6’2″ and 220 lbs Burger looks the part of a 40 home run guy. His productions also speaks to that being in his future coming off back to back 20 HR season in college. He has an “unorthodox” swing and play style. Some compare his swing to the current White Sox 3B Todd Frazier.

Hitting .328/.443/.648 this year for the Missouri State Bears, he lead them to the super regionals. They came up just short of the College World Series losing to TCU in the 3 game series just 1 day before Burger was drafted to the White Sox.

This adds to the small group of exciting young hitting prospects the White Sox have. Including names like Yoan Moncada, Zack Collins, Luis Robert, and Luis Alexander Basabe.

If I know anything about anything tho, it’s that there’s only one thing that can improve a good Burger… and that’s a ice cold Beer.

The #tankforbeer calling is still ringing loudly through the White Sox fandom. Even after a down year for Beer (.298/.478/.606) there is little doubt he will be highly drafted come 2018. The former college player of the year as a freshman still had an incredibly walk:strikeout rate at 64 BBs with only 35 strikeouts, and shows some real pop at 16 dingers on the season.

A lot of college stars have breakout season their junior year, but some say Beer already broke out. If Beer produces close to what he did as a freshman he’ll be a sure fire top 5 pick, but maybe not that sure thing first overall pick he’s been eyeing since 2015.

Very recent history may make it more likely the Chicago White Sox grab Beer as it seems they’ve gone from always drafting college pitching to targeting those rare college bats. Even if they don’t secure the number 1 pick I’m sure there will be a crop of talented high schoolers being taken ahead of Beer in 2018. Ex. The first 3 picks this year were out of HS.

White Sox fans might be able to breathe a little easier when watching our guys lose night in and night out with just the dreams of a juicy Burger and cold Beer in the middle of the lineup for years to come.
