Chicago Bears Draft Recap

Well here we are.  I thought I had the first two rounds figured out for Mr. Pace as I blogged last week, but a HUGE splash messed up all predictions.  Without further adieu, a recap of the Chicago Bears 2017 Draft Picks

Round 1

Well here is the big splash I mentioned above… What people will be talking about for decades to come, and the next 4-5 years will mold what people say.  As of right now, I cannot remember a pick being scrutinized more than Mitchel Trubisky going #2 overall to the Bears.  The Bears traded with the San Fransicso 49ers to move up to the #2 spot.  Here are the trade details:

Bears Receive: #2 Overall Pick (Mitch Trubisky, QB – UNC)

49ers Receive: #3 Overall Pick (Solomon Thomas), #67 Overall (3rd Rd, Ahkello Witherspoon), #111 Overall (4th Rd, which was traded to SEA) and a 3rd round pick next year.

Looks pretty lopsided and don’t get me wrong, I HATED this when it happened.  The amount we gave up to move up one spot is crazy to me. But here’s my spinzone… We had two 4th rounders this year so we are still picking in the 4th, so in my dumb mind, we didn’t lose an opportunity to pick in the 4th round.  So in retrospect, we only gave up two 3rd rounders in order to gain what could be a franchise changing QB.

Give him time.  We now have somebody who could be “The Guy” instead of a place filler.  That hope has never creeped into my mind in my time as a Bears fan.  Can’t wait for Mitchell to prove all of the h8rs wrong.

Round 2

You’re going to have to get used to hearing this… Another shocking pick here…

Adam Shaheen, TE – Ashland

Shaheen Yup… A division II TE.. At first it seems like a weird call to take a player that hasn’t faced tough competition. But once you see this man’s size you will recognize.

Shaheen stands at 6’6″, 278 lbs, but ran a 4.79 40-Yeard Dash.  The dude is a man child.  He has the size capability to become a freak of nature up here at the NFL level.  With that amazing size and speed combo, the Bears may have just found Gronk 2.0.  An all-time diamond in the rough.

Round 3

If taking risky picks isn’t for you, then you are going to lose sleep over this year’s class.

Eddie Jackson, S – Alabama

This is a risky pick because Jackson had trouble staying on the field in college.  His season was cut short last year by a broken leg, so that can be avoided.  This pick has the potential to be a late round steal if Jackson can stay healthy because when he was on the field for Nick Saben, he was a hell of a player who had a great season tow years ago.  Another high ceiling guy for the Bears.

Tarik Cohen, RB – North Carolina A&TCohen.jpg

Cohen’s nickname in college was The Human Joystick, he can change direction on a dime.  He has the potential to be a versatile player, being a change of pace back or maybe even a slot receiver. Could be another sneaky good pick in this shaky draft.

Round 5

And finally.. the Bears final pick of the draft. Might make a reasonable choice here right..?

Jordan Morgan, G – KutztownKutztown

Finally.  A Chicago Bear from the great football powerhouse of Kutztown.  You know how the old saying goes, “Every good draft class has not one, but two DII picks.”  Its a tale as old as time.

With that being said, I don’t hate this pick either. He can mature behind some veterans for a few years.  Being from a DII school, you don’t get recognized by an NFL team without having a crazy work ethic.  Excited to see where this guys can go.

So there you have it.  The draft that we will look back on that saved the Chicago Bears franchise.  What a time to be a Bears fan. I’m already ready for football szn. Bear Down.
